These pictures show the front lawn and the position of the “house” at SurfWatch. The house is built of recycled “Christchurch Red” bricks recovered from old Christchurch buildings, and macrocarpa (Monterey Cypress) weather boards.

Macrocarpa is used in the interior as well. Although a wood that “moves” and with a tendency to split, it is naturally resistant to borer and rot. The wood is unique in it’s orange colour. Artist Kevin Randall is an expert in carving macrocarpa which provides a myriad of fascinating grain patterns.
